The ASA is a not-for-profit organisation governed by an Executive and Council, comprising anaesthetists who volunteer their time for the benefit of others.
The ASA has almost forty separate committees. If you are interested in becoming involved with an ASA committee then please feel free to contact the ASA.
The ASA Council and Executive are the central point of communication and responsible for all decisions made, proposed or discussed by and for the ASA.
The Economics Advisory Committee (EAC) is responsible for overseeing issues of economic importance to the profession as well as assisting members in the economic, industrial and private areas.
The Professional Issues Advisory Committee (PIAC) works to enhance the professional status of anaesthesia through the promotion of education and training in anaesthesia and related disciplines.
General Practitioner Anaesthetists (GPAs) are the sole providers of anaesthetic services in many rural and remote towns in Australia and are essential for a satisfactory standard of medical care in these communities.
The main focus of the ASA Overseas Development and Education Committee (ODEC) is to support and promote anaesthesia training in the Pacific. Over 75% of the substantial ODEC budget goes towards Pacific anaesthesia and this support has seen significant achievements.
Please visit the Education section of the ASA website for more information on ODEC activities, to find out about courses and how you can help.
