A Locum can be any medical practitioner who is currently registered or licensed as a medical practitioner under state or territory law and is:
1. A General Practitioner (as defined in the Health Insurance Act 1973).
AND
In accordance with the Rural Training Curriculum endorsed by the Joint Consultative Committee on Anaesthesia (JCCA), the practitioner must have undergone appropriate training, examination and ongoing accreditation for anaesthesia administration and must be administering anaesthesia safely.
The Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthesia (ANZCA) has developed a minimum national training level for GP anaesthetists (PS1: Recommendations on Essential Training for Rural General Practitioners in Australia Proposing to Administer Anaesthesia), which is endorsed by the ASA.
OR
2. A Specialist Anaesthetist who has Fellowship of ANZCA or comparable qualifications recognised by ANZCA.
OR
3. Recognised as a Specialist Anaesthetist with an Australian state or territory medical registration board.
Applicants are responsible for credentialing a Locum and deciding on their Locum of choice.
