GP Anaesthetists' Locum Scheme

The General Practitioner Anaesthetists Locum Scheme (GPALS) is a locum service for General Practitioner anaesthetists (GPA) located throughout rural and remote Australia. Established in 2009, GPALS is unique in that it specialises in providing workforce support to these medical practitioners so they may more readily access personal and professional leave.

Benefits of GPALS

GPALS fulfils GP anaesthetist locum placement requests anywhere in rural and remote Australia.

Hosts

The key benefits in a Host using GPALS are that the Scheme:

1. Has no administrative fees

2. Offers generous subsidies including:

  •   $750 (GST excl.) per day for locum service fees up to 14 days during a financial year.
  •   Up to $1500 (GST excl.) for travel costs per placement.

3.  Eligibility to access the subsidies may be possible even when the GP Anaesthetist locum is arranged privately.

Locums

The key benefits in being a GPALS Locum are that the Scheme:

1. Subsidies up to $500 per placement for travel time.

2. Provides support on practice and transition issues, should it be needed, through the GPALS medical adviser.
