Q. What is the Relative Value Guide (RVG)?
A. The RVG relates to anaesthesia services, one to the other, on the basis of difficulty and time. It is not a fee schedule but rather a system expressing relativities in terms of units. It is designed to assist anaesthetists to develop their own fee schedules on a logical and consistent basis.
Q. When will the latest edition of the RVG be available?
A. The latest edition of the RVG is currently on the website, all ASA members are notified when a new edition is due, generally at the end of the calendar year.

Q. When is the RVG reviewed?
A. The RVG is reviewed annually by the Economics Advisory Committee (EAC). All suggestions for changes or improvements are considered by the EAC. If you have a suggestion please send it via our contact us link Att EAC.
Q. Who oversees the introduction and monitoring of the RVG into the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS)?
A. The Anesthesia Services Liaison Group. This group compromises of representatives from the Society, the Australian Medical Association (AMA), the Rural Doctors' Association of Australia (RDAA) and the Department of Health and Aging (DHA).
Q. Where can you obtain a copy of the latest edition RVG and how much will it cost?
A. The RVG will be mailed out to all members at no cost. Non-members will be charged $110.00 including GST.
ASA members may request 1-2 additional copies of the RVG free of charge, if more copies are required there will be a charge of $5.00 per book.
