The ASA has been representing anaesthetists since 1934. To mark its 75 years of representation, the Society sponsored a number of lectures in various states and territories. This anniversary was recognised by both the Association of Anaesthetists Great Britain and Ireland and the New Zealand Society with the presentation of a beautifully crafted gavel and greenstone mere, respectively.
During 2009, the ASA expanded its business operations with the addition of the General Practitioner Anaesthetists’ Locum Scheme (GPALS), a specialised locum service for GP anaesthetists (GPA) located throughout rural and remote Australia.
